A Framework to Make Your Technology Stand Out in Investor Pitches
📝 Insights from our sessions
One common mistake founders make when pitching is starting with the solution and placing too much emphasis on the technology.
To make your pitch more persuasive, especially on the Solution slide, we recommend a refined approach that weaves your technology into a compelling narrative that showcases your overall business model.
This approach helps investors understand the actual value of your solution beyond just the tech itself.
Here’s our actionable framework to guide you in crafting your “Solution” slides, focusing on the “what” and the “how” of your product or service:
1. Position Technology as a Supporting Tool
Action: Present technology as a supporting element that enhances the customer experience rather than the central feature of your pitch.
Reason: This prevents your solution from being seen as a tech-first commodity and underscores how it uniquely solves market needs.
2. Emphasize Unique Implementation
Action: Focus on how your technology is used differently than others. Highlight the specific ways it solves deeper, often hidden problems in the market.
Reason: This sets your solution apart from competitors who may use similar tech, showcasing your innovative approach.
3. Avoid the Commodity Perception
Action: Avoid generic descriptions of your technology that make it seem easily replaceable. Instead, highlight what makes your approach distinct and difficult to replicate.
Reason: This positions your product as essential and unique rather than just another tech-driven alternative.
4. Simplify Technical Communication
Action: When discussing your technology, focus on benefits rather than technical specs. Use clear, simplified language to connect the tech’s value to the business problem.
Reason: Most investors are not technical experts. Clear, benefit-driven explanations help them grasp why your solution stands out without overwhelming them with jargon.
5. Link Technology to Long-Term Advantage
Action: Demonstrate how your technology contributes to sustainable competitive positioning and future market relevance.
Reason: Investors look for solutions that can adapt and grow. Showing how your tech supports long-term strategy reassures them of your product’s staying power.
